Hollywood AC Repair for Apartments, Condos and Hillside Homes
Hollywood's housing is some of the most varied in Los Angeles: 1920s apartment courts, duplexes and fourplexes, mid-century condos, and homes stacked up the hillsides above Franklin Ave. When you need AC repair in Hollywood, you need a team that's comfortable on a rooftop, in a cramped mechanical closet and on a steep hillside lot.
We're based in Sherman Oaks, right over the hill via the 101 and the Cahuenga Pass. Same-day visits are common.
Hollywood's Climate Is Milder, Until It Isn't
Hollywood sits in the LA basin, where summers are generally milder than the San Fernando Valley on the other side of the hills. That's why so many older Hollywood buildings were never designed for air conditioning. But heat waves still hit, often from August into October, and Santa Ana winds can bring hot, dry days in fall.
The hillside neighborhoods add their own twist. Homes in Beachwood Canyon, the Hollywood Dell and along the canyons can catch strong afternoon sun, and top-floor apartments under flat roofs heat up fast. When it's hot, the systems that do exist work hard.
Hollywood Housing and HVAC Challenges
Older apartments, duplexes and courtyard buildings
Many buildings date from the 1920s through the 1960s. Units often rely on window or wall ACs, or on aging rooftop equipment. Ductwork, if it exists, may be old and leaky. We repair window, wall and rooftop units, and for many units a ductless mini split is a big step up.
Condos with HOA rules
Condo buildings commonly have rooftop or balcony condensers, limited space and HOA rules about where equipment can go and how it looks or sounds. We plan around those rules from the start.
Hillside homes
Homes in the Hollywood Hills often have multiple levels, tight crawlspaces and hard-to-reach equipment. Getting an outdoor unit placed safely and quietly on a steep lot takes planning.

Rooftop Unit Repair, Done Right
Rooftop equipment takes a beating from sun and heat, and quick fixes tend to fail again. We find out why a unit broke, not just what broke, and explain it so you know what to watch for.
"We had an issue with our rooftop unit and they came out the same day. The tech was super knowledgeable he didn't just swap parts, he actually figured out why it broke and explained the whole thing to us so we'd know what to watch for next time. No upselling, no weird fees, just honest work at a fair price."

For landlords and property managers, regular maintenance keeps tenant calls down during heat waves.
Permits, LADWP and Refrigerant Changes
Hollywood is part of the City of Los Angeles, so AC and heat pump replacements go through LADBS. Title 24 applies, and HERS verification may be required depending on scope. Note that some addresses near the border, especially in 90046, are actually in West Hollywood, which has its own building department, so we confirm the jurisdiction before pulling a permit.
Electricity comes from LADWP, whose rebate programs change; we file the paperwork for you. New systems use A2L refrigerants like R-454B or R-32, while older R-410A systems can still be serviced and repaired. Our guide to the R-410A phase-down and A2L refrigerants explains what it means for your equipment.
Every install comes with a load calculation, a written quote with exact model numbers, covered floors, daily cleanup and haul-away of old equipment.
Replacing Window Units With Something Better
A lot of Hollywood apartments and duplexes still depend on noisy window or wall units that block light and leak air. For owners and landlords ready to upgrade, a ductless mini split or small heat pump can cool and heat each unit quietly, with no ductwork to add. Not sure if an old unit is worth fixing? Send us a photo of your system and we'll tell you straight whether it needs replacing or just a repair.
